Možno niektorí z nás snívajú o Silvestri v New Yorku, Paríži, či Londýne, no aj tak sa v niečom ani jedno z týchto 
veľkomiest nevyrovná Grónsku! Grónsko sa síce hrdí dvomi NAJ: najväčší ostrov sveta a najmenej obývaná krajina sveta, no okrem týchto prívlastkov sa môže popýšiť aj inou kuriozitou: počas jednej noci oslavujú Nový rok, prosím pekne, dvakrát!
Prvá oslava Nového roka spadá na 20.00 hod. kvôli dánskemu Novému roku, ktorá je poctou Dánsku za spoločnú históriu. Aj keď je Grónsko autonómne, Dánsko vládlo ostrovu od roku 1762, no robí to tak aj doteraz, ale nie až tak hm, okato… Hlavne, čo sa týka, zahraničnej politiky a obrany. Aby si tak Grónsku uctilo svojho “vládcu”, párty sa začína skôr: kvôli 4-hodinovému časovému rozdielu medi týmito krajinami.
Druhá oslava sa koná o štyri hodinky neskôr o polnoci, a ktorá označuje grónsky Nový rok. Obe žúrky sa ako inak nezaobídu bez dobrého jedla, spevu, no a množstva šampanského! Pri údere dvanástej hodiny ohňostroje rozžiaria celú oblohu, no čo je ďalším unikátom tohto zázračného miesta je jedinečná polárna žiara (tiež nazývaná Aurora borealis = polárna žiara na severnom póle), ktorú môžete vidieť na polnočnej tmavej a čistej oblohe od septembra do začiatku apríla. Tento magický úkaz si na Silvestra môžete pozrieť z akéhokoľvek kúta tejto fascinujúcej krajiny. Toto určite nezažijete nikde inde na svete!
