Čo Vás napadne pri slove “hostel“? Teda okrem slávne neslávneho filmu s 
rovnakým názvom si väčšina z nás predstaví nie príliš atraktívne ubytovne natrieskané hlučnými študentami s ruksakmi najmä počas letných mesiacov. Nie, že by realita bola tomuto obrazu príliš vzdialená, ale na hosteloch je predsa niečo, čo môžete oceniť, aj keď už máte po škole a hypotéku na krku. Pozrite sa s nami na ich svetlé a tie nie až tak svetlé stránky a dobre zvážte všetky argumenty:
Výhody:
- Cena – tak to je určite rozhodujúci faktor pri výbere ubytka, hostely sú cenovo veľmi prijateľné a často aj najlacnejšou formou ubytovania (teda, ak nerátame prenocovanie na stanici alebo v parku…).
- Info - je veľmi ľahké nájsť hostel v danej destinácii, na portáli Pelikan.sk nájdete od novembra minulého roku širokú ponuku hostelov po celom svete. Nenechávajte veci na náhodu a rezervujte si svoje ubytovanie v hosteli vopred.

- Raňajky a kuchynka – zvyčajne Váš pobyt v hosteli zahŕňa aj raňajky, ktoré sa podávajú v danom časovom intervale každé ráno. Ak odchádzate predtým, ako sa raňajky začínaju – môžete kľudne požiadať o donášku. Tiež zvyčajne môžete využívať spoločnú kuchynku na prípravu jedla. Pre istotu si vopred zistite, aké kuchynské “inštrumenty” si budete musieť so sebou vziať.
- Kontakty – hostely sú skvelou príležitosťou spoznať ľudí z celého sveta. Ak ste v hosteli vo vlastnej krajine, môžete cudzincom poradiť čo a ako alebo im pomôcť pri riešení jazykových bariér či iných nedorozumení.
Nevýhody:
- Súkromie – nedostatok súkromia patrí určite medzi najslabšie stránky hostelov. Ak spíte na izbe s ďalšími ľuďmi (môžete si vybrať, či budete na izbe zmiešanej alebo čisto ženskej alebo mužskej) – jednoducho sa pred svetom a hlukom na izbe nezatvoríte. Tiež sprchy a toalety sú spoločné. Možno budete musieť niekedy tolerovať nočný hluk alebo hlučnejšie spoločné priestory. No veľa hostelov ponúka aj izby pre dvoch či jednu (single) osobu – sú však drahšie, často majú aj vlastnú kúpeľňu, a tak Vaše súkromie bude v pohode.
- Bezpečnosť – radšej sa vždy vopred informujte, aké sú možnosti. Väčšina hostelov ponúka bezpečnostné schránky: zadarmo alebo za poplatok.
- Posteľné prádlo – opäť platí: informujte sa vopred. Väčšina hostelov poskytuje posteľné prádlo, niekde je to však za poplatok. Samozrejme, prestrieť si budete musieť sami.
- Otváracia doba – mnoho hostelov je otvorených len v určitých časoch, počas ktorých sa môžete ubytovať alebo odhlásiť. Odporúčame sa informovať vopred. Niekde sa hostely na noc zamykajú. V tom prípade môžete za depozit dostať kľúče, ak plánujete prísť neskôr. Niekde však platí niečo ako zákaz vychádzania. Bohužiaľ, v tom prípade, keď prídete z nočných potuliek neskoro – jednoducho sa nedoklopete…
Vo všetkých prípadoch však platí: vopred sa na všetko radšej informovať priamo alebo na stránke hostela – vyhnete sa tak nemilým “prekvapeniam”. Ak nie ste príliš náročný, hostel je skvelou alternatívou drahšieho ubytovania v hoteli. Spolu s lacnou letenkou Vám narastú krídla a ľahko si splníte všetky cestovateľské sny.
