Služba Google Street View je šikovnou “fičúrkou” Google Maps a Google Earth, ktorá nám umožňuje 360-stupňový panoramatický pohľad na ulice. Týmto spôsobom môžete poriadne preskúmať vašu destináciu, hotel a okolie a mať istotu, čo vás čaká a neminie, a že sa len tak ľahko nestratíte. Skvelá vecička!
Prístup je cez link maps.google.co.uk. Potom stačí len posúvať žltým panáčikom z ľavej postrannej lišty, ktorého jednoducho posuniete tam, kde chcete “šmírovať”. Hneď po pohybe s panáčikom sa vám zobrazia pokryté (modrou farbou), teda nafotené oblasti, ktoré sú dostupné cez Street View. Malé panely v ľavom hornom rohu vám umožnia pohyb hore, dole alebo vľavo a napravo. Tiež priblíženie alebo vzdialenie náhľadu. V dolnom pravom rohu sa vám zobrazí malé okno s náhľadom mapy, kde sa práve nachádzate.
Šmírovanie som nespomínala len tak… Google Maps totiž čelil a čelí obvineniam z porušovania súkromia, keďže fotky presne zachytávajú dané miesta, obydlia a sú na nich zachytení ľudia. Uvidíme, ako z toho Google Maps vycúva.
Počet pokrytých ulíc a uličiek na kontinentoch sa časom zvyšuje, a aj preto sa šikovníci v Google Maps rozhodli usporiadať súťaž Google Maps’ Streetview Awards 2010 pre anglické ulice a uličky prostredníctvom Streetview. Fanúšikovia hlasovali a vyberali v troch kategóriách: Best Foodie Street (Najlepšia ulica pre gurmánov), Best Fashion Street (Naj ulica módy) a Most Picturesque Street (Najkrajšia ulica).Takže poďme sa “pozrieť” na víťazov:
Best Foodie Street v Británii: Stockbridge High Street, Hampshire
Slávne to mestečko pre gurmánov a labužníkov. Spomínali sme ho v súvislosti s Festivalom jedla. Táto ulička je garanciou stekajúcich sliniek a nebeských pôžitkov! Nechajte sa zlákať! Mňam!
Best Fashion Street v Británii: Milsom Street, Bath
Táto ulica nadmieru uspokojí všetkých milovníkov módy. Aj tých, ktorí zháňajú skvelé úlovky za super ceny, ale aj milovníkov značiek. Krásne dobové drevené priečelia obchodov dodajú vášmu nakupovaniu jedinečný šmrnc. Nezostáva mi povedať nič iné len: Nabrúste si kreditky! 
Most Picturesque Street v Británii: The Shambles, York
Táto ulica patrí medzi vychytávky Yorku. Tradične britská s nádhernou architektúrou a prostredím plná skvelých obchodíkov. Považuje sa za jednu z najlepšie zachovaných európskych stredovekých ulíc.
