Projekt tohto miesta vznikol v roku 1881 a samotný cintorín sa nachádza v exkluzívnej štvrti Recoleta. Nájdeme tu pochovaných mnoho slávnych osobností z radov Argentínčanov, no asi najslávnejšou osobou odpočívajucou na tomto mieste je Eva Perón alebo jednoducho Evita.
Cintorín obsahuje mnoho majstrovsky prepracovaných mramorových mauzóleií v rôznych architektonických štýloch zdobených sochami. Celý cintorín je rozvrhnutý do častí ako známe americké mestské bloky so širokými hlavnými chodníkmi olemovanými stromami.
Zatiaľ čo mnoho hrobiek je vo vynikajúcom stave a je viditeľné, že je o nich “postarané”, nájdete tu všaj aj také, ktorým k rozpadu veľa nechýba… Niektoré sú aj poškodené, dokonca niektoré sa používajú ako sklad nástrojov a čistiacich prostriedkov na údržbu cintorína. Sú pekne poukladané na truhlách vo vnútri…
Každé mauzóleum nesie meno rodiny vyryté do priečelia. La Recoleta je jedným z tých cintorínov s tradíciou vyrývania len dátumu smrti, nie narodenia. Ďalšou zaujímavosťou alebo atrakciou je kolónia divých mačiek, ktoré sú jedinými živými obyvateľmi. Zvyknú sa zhromaždiť aj po tuctoch v čase, keď sa cintorín zatvára, keďže ich miestni zvyknú v tom čase kŕmiť.

Cintorín Mount Auburn bol založený v roku 1831 ako prvý americký “záhradný” alebo “vidiecky” cintorín a rozprestiera sa na mierne zvažujúcom sa teréne s rozlohou 70 ha, čo je veľmi dôležité z hľadiska historického, ale aj z hľadiska jeho funkcie, keďže je to tiež arborétum. Tento cintorín, ktorého brány sa otvorili v roku 1877, nájdete na východnom predmestí Sydney: na útesoch s nezabudnuteľným výhľadom na more. Tiež tu nájdeme hroby slávnych Austrálčanov, ktorí tvorili dejiny tohto najmenšieho kontinentu.
Zaujímavosťou tohto cintorína je fakt, že sa počas svojej vyše 130-ročnej prevádzky dokázal vždy samofinancovať, čiže nikdy nebol podporovaný miestnymi úradmi, i keď občas musí zápasiť nie s malými problémami… keďže reštaurovanie monumentov je nesmierne nákladné a niektoré rodiny odmietli financovať ich úpravu.
